Thánh Ðaminh Toái Và Ðaminh Huyện

Feast Day June 5

Saint Dominic Toái and Saint Dominic Huyện were both fishermen from the village of Đông Thành. Both were arrested for believing in the Catholic faith and were imprisoned. While in prison, they gave a living example of faith and encouraged their fellow prisoners to remain courageous and ready to endure suffering for Christ.

Both were burned alive in Nam Định on June 5, 1862, the same day Emperor Tự Đức signed the Treaty of Nhâm Tuất with France, which required an end to the persecution. Pope Pius XII beatified these two martyrs on April 29, 1951. Pope John Paul II canonized them on June 19, 1988.
